Casual – Student Engagement Champion
Salary: £9.77 per hour, plus 12.07% accrued holiday per total value
FTE: Part time, 10 hours per week
Duration of contract: 3 months (25th October 2021 – 25th January 2021)
Main duties & responsibilities
The role is designed to ensure that new students are connected to the appropriate support and feel part of our community as they begin their first term. Throughout Semester A, the role holder will support a cohort of students.
Work will be undertaken within HBS and will include working on an individual and/or group basis with students and staff. A significant amount of independent work is required, with support from the Student Experience Officer and Student Success Team (SST).
Please note, applicants must be UH Hertfordshire Business School students who are level 5 and above - ideally we are looking for returning PG students or final year (level 6) students.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• To connect students to HBS societies and other social activities
• Inspire and support students to gain the most from their University experience
• Triage any student to the right support in liaison with the Student Experience Office/SIT
• Act as an additional interface between students and tutors
• To act in a community building role to support HBS level 7 students in their first year of study
Skills and Attributes
Essential
- Experience of working and/or learning with a variety of people from different cultures, backgrounds and ages
- Awareness of issues affecting and of interest to students from various backgrounds
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to accurately record data
- Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team
- Ability to deal with sensitive material with strict confidentiality
- Good IT/digital skills including use of Word, Excel and email
- Positive outlook
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Proactive, reliable, approachable and able to demonstrate initiative
