We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Finance & Grants Assistant in the Paediatrics Department, Medical Sciences Division. You will join our busy team and gain first-hand experience of the day-to-day transactional Finance and Grants tasks that underpin the operations of the Finance and Grants team and the various groups within the Department.

The Medical Sciences Division is one of four academic divisions in the University of Oxford. We are an internationally recognized centre of excellence for biomedical and clinical research and teaching, and the largest academic division in the University of Oxford. Over 5000 academics, researchers, NHS clinicians and GPs, and administrative staff, 1500 graduate and 1600 undergraduate students, together contribute to our extensive and exemplary research, teaching and clinical portfolios.

About the apprenticeship

As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Abingdon and Witney College, where you will complete Level 2 & Level 3 Accounts and Finance Assistant Intermediate Apprenticeship and you will gain an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting & Level 3 Advanced Diploma in accounting.

For this apprenticeship, you will work at the Department of Paediatrics Office, John Radcliffe Hospital and other sites where required. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Abingdon or Witney College.

In total, for each level, it will take 18 months to complete all elements of the apprenticeships including your End Point Assessments (EPA), with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you

You will be passionate about starting your career in Finance & Grants and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change with an interest in accounting and finance.

To complete the Level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. These qualifications are completed over 7 days. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon and Witney will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process.

There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
