Fuel cell single cell/short stack modeling, design, build and test”

Modeling (electrochemistry, heat and mass transfer, CFD, mechanical)

Optimization of MEA and flow field design for our operating conditions (low anode pressure, high cathode pressure, low humidity)

Evaluate emerging light-weight bi-polar plate materials

Explore opportunities to enhance water cross-over to anode (e.g. thinner membrane, ionomer optimization, pressure gradients, etc.)

Modeling and MEA selection using fuel cell modeling/simulation with ANSYS Fluent software.

Standardizing the FC test station and test procedure

Establishing a protocol for Fuel cell stack assembly/disassembly/connections etc

Characterizing FC components (membranes, catalysts, and GDLs etc) by in-situ and ex-situ techniques

Evaluating commercial MEAs for obtaining/establishing baseline performance

Evaluating short stack and developing strategies for establishing reproducible/repeatable results

Evaluating single cells/Short stacks with various test protocols (prorated currents for the smaller cells/stacks)

Developing/Adopting/Conducting durability for short stacks with accelerated test protocols

Implementing/optimizing diagnostics techniques/tools for failure modes of MEAs and or other BOP components

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy

Analyzing/Reporting/Interpreting Data/Results
