Student job: Hands-on demonstration and event organisation assistant at CYBATHLON

CYBATHLON of ETH Zurich offers a platform to advance research in the field of assistive technology and to promote the dialogue with the public about the inclusion of people with disabilities in everyday life. Main driver is a unique championship in which people with physical disabilities compete against each other to complete everyday tasks using state-of-the-art technical assistance systems.

Project background

On the road to the main event CYBATHLON 2024 event, various CYBATHLON  events will take place. For these appearances we are looking for support to convey the idea of the CYBATHLON to visitors during hands-on demonstrations and to support the event execution in general. The hands-on demonstrations are based on the disciplines of the CYBATHLON. We show visitors the challenges that people with physical disabilities face in their everyday environment and how latest technology can remove some of the barriers.

Job description

You supervise hands-on demos, often together with a person with disabilities. You can expect about 6-12 performances with hands-on demos per year. The events take place partly in the evening and on weekends in Switzerland. The hands-on demos will also be part of the main event CYBATHLON 2024. It is not necessary to be present at every single performance or the assignments can be chosen according to availability.

In addition to the supervision of the hands-on demonstrations, other tasks for the organisation of CYBATHLON events may arise, which you can support. Such tasks can be the preparation of material prior to the event, build-up, support the execution, and dismantling of the event.

It is a student job, paid on an hourly basis, starting August 2021 until at least July 2023, desirable until end of 2024.

Your profile

You are flexible in regarding the job workload since the tasks may not be evenly distributed over the months, i.e. there are phases with more and phases with less workload.

The job requires a motivated, patient, and friendly interaction with visitors and good language skills in German and English.
