Computer Vision and Learning Group (VLG) is a research group within the Insitute of Visual Computing of the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zürich. Our research interest lies in computer vision and the combination with machine learning. We work on discovering and proposing algorithms and implementations for solving high-​level visual recognition problems. The goal is to advance the frontier of robust machine perception in real-​world settings.


Project background

Studying human-scene and human-human interactions from visual input is important for understanding human behaviors, as well as many applications such as AR/VR. To that end, The VLG lab (Computer Vision and Learning Group) at ETH is currently working on data capture of a social interaction dataset to capture rich and complex interaction signals including body and hand poses, facial expression and gaze directions, captured with 3 Azure Kinect cameras and a Hololens2 VR glasses.

We are looking for students of ETH Zurich who can support the team up to 15 hrs/week (during semester) and up to 41 hrs/week (in semester break) as a student assistant for around 3 months, ​​from September 15st , 2021 (earliest starting date) or by arrangement.


Job description

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Running state-of-the-art 3D human shape and pose estimation methods (such as SPIN[1], VIBE[2], etc.) on our captured interaction datasets.

Your profile

We are looking for students who:

  • can speak fluent English
  • proficient with Python, PyTorch, OpenCV, knowledge of computer vision
  • familiar with 3D human pose estimation or 3D human is a plus
