Researcher Position in Biomedical Engineering / Development Engineering

The Engineering Design and Computing Laboratory has a fully funded research position to work on the development of a novel low-cost ventilator for Low- and Middle-Income Countries.


Job description

It includes conceptual work, mechanical design, and developing strategies for the implementation of the ventilator in low-resource settings (LRS).

Concretely, the tasks include:

  • product development of a biomedical device in the context of LRS
  • prototyping and manufacturing of the device
  • research on the implementation and scale up of medical devices in LRS
  • project management

The research position is fully funded with a competitive salary. You will be part of a highly motivated, international team at one of the best universities in Europe. Besides working in our growing, ambitious team you will also have the chance to collaborate with students, other labs, and partners from industry and academia. Your ideas will help to actively shape the project’s profile in biomedical and development engineering and strengthen our position within the international community.

Since we are an international team, English is our main working language. We especially encourage women to apply.

The starting date is as soon as possible in 2022.


Your profile

Are you creative, curious and can work across disciplines? Are you interested in biomedical engineering and development engineering? Do you have experience in developing technical products to solve challenging problems in low-resource settings? Do you have a hands-on approach? We are looking for excellent applicants with a Master or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Development Engineering, who are motivated to work on a highly interdisciplinary project with global reach.
