Postdoctoral position

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 16 Jan 2022

A postdoctoral position is available in the team of Prof. Marijke Brink, Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel / University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. The research group investigates molecular mechanisms whereby receptor tyrosine kinases regulate growth, differentiation and survival of cardiac cells, with focus on the ErbB receptors activated by neuregulin-1β. We are seeking a motivated candidate to work on an interdisciplinary project funded by the SNSF.

The project in which you will participate aims to better understand the cell-type-specific functions of the ErbB receptors. Flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing or proteomics are used to analyze the cells that you will isolate from cancer-therapy-induced cardiomyopathy models. As part of an ongoing collaboration with the University of Antwerp, the goal is to provide a fundamental basis for the use of neuregulin-1β to treat cardiac disease. You will have the opportunity to submit your own research proposal in line with the group's interests and within the scope of the focal areas of the Department of Biomedicine.

  • PhD in cellular/molecular biology
  • Good understanding of cell-to-cell communication and signaling mechanisms
  • Hands-on experience with murine (tumor) models
  • Experience in flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing and/or proteomics
  • High degree of personal drive, precision, and creativity
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • You enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary international team

The Department of Biomedicine in Basel offers a stimulating environment with state-of-the-art facilities, enabling biomedical research of the highest quality while also training the next generation of scientists. Non-clinical and clinical scientists work side by side to foster a translational environment (https://biomedizin.unibas.ch ). The city of Basel is located in the heart of Europe on the border triangle of France, Germany and Switzerland. The Basel Area is known for its excellence in the life sciences.
