Postdoctoral position in Bioinformatics
100 %

The University Research Priority Project (URPP) "Translational Cancer Research" aims to connect basic, translational and clinical cancer research and is driven by a consortium of 16 principal investigators, all of who are leaders in the field of cancer research (click here for further information).
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct their research in the laboratory of Prof. Lukas Sommer at the Institute of Anatomy, University of Zurich, and will collaborate closely with the team of Prof. Reinhard Dummer, Department of Dermatology, University Hospital Zurich.
Your responsibilities
Our research focuses on the mechanisms underlying melanoma initiation, metastasis, and drug resistance formation (see e.g. Zingg et al, Cancer Cell 2018; Varum et al., Cell Stem Cell 2019). Among others, we perform single cell RNA sequencing and other bioinformatics approaches, using patient-derived melanoma biopsies, human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived melanoblast/melanoma cell cultures, and genetically engineered mouse models. The postdoctoral candidate will provide bioinformatics support for these projects and also have the opportunity to lead their own projects involving computational analysis of large datasets.
Your profile
Candidates should hold a PhD, MD-PhD or equivalent degree in life sciences and should have a demonstrated record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published, or accepted for publication, in major journals. Preferred skills and experience include work with functional genomics applications or high-dimensional data analysis techniques. Extensive experience with single cell RNA sequencing, including raw data handling and downstream analysis is desirable. We expect a strong interest in the field of interdisciplinary science and the ability to independently develop and drive a research project.
What we offer
We offer varied work in an inspiring, multidisciplinary, and supportive environment within a vibrant and international research team. Our group members have access to a comprehensive range of facilities and technology platforms established on the campus. Given the close collaboration with clinician scientists at the University Hospital Zurich, the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between basic and clinical science.
Place of work
University of Zurich, Institute of Anatomy, Winterthurerstrasse 190. CH-8057 Zurich
Start of employment
The position is available for at least 3 years, starting on August 1st, 2021.
Applications containing the candidate's curriculum vitae, list of publications, short letter of motivation and the names and e-mail addresses of three potential references should be sent in a single PDF document.
