Postdoc position in Electron Energy-Loss Spectroscopy

A new energy filter for electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) and energy filtered imaging (EFI) from CEOS GmbH has recently been installed in our Titan Themis 80-300 microscope. As it is one of the first of this kind installed on a commercial TEM, at the core of the project lays the development and optimization of the workflow of the methodological framework in close contact with the manufacturer. Some of the activities are of applied nature while others will target on methodological and fundamental topics, such as, in-situ EELS measurements of functional oxides and catalyst particles, and exploration of energy-filtered 4D STEM. Besides, the successful candidate is expected to assist with diverse industrial projects of the Electron Microscopy Center by making use of the most advanced electron microscopy techniques. This shall be an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in expanding and broadening their problem solving skills.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a PhD in physics or related discipline, and a thorough background in aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy, image analysis and programming (scripting in DigitalMicrograph, Matlab, Python). Candidates with demonstrated research skills and excellent scientific background will be considered. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, basic comprehension and oral expression skills in German are desirable.

The position (100%) will be available as of June 2021 for a period of 1 year, with the possibility to extend it by one more year.
