The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

Professor Anne Spang (Biozentrum, University Basel) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to establish a mammalian intestinal organoid system to study intracellular transport.

The Project
Inter- and intracellular communication is one of the basics of eukaryotic life. Exo- and endocytic transport are essential components for this communication. Most of our knowledge on these communication events stem from either single cell analyses and to a lesser extent from animal model systems. While in the single cell context the influence of neighboring cells is missing, mammalian animal models are very complicated and data hard to interpret. C. elegans is an extremely useful model (Solinger, Rashid et al., Nat. Cell Biol. 2020, Solinger et al., researchsquare). However, its intestinal organization is very simple. To bridge the gap of knowledge, we wish to establish a mammalian intestinal organoid system and study intracellular transport, with an emphasis of the endosomal system.
