PhD Student - Investigating the pathophysiological roles and pharmacological modulation of the endogenous gasotransmitter hydrogen sulfide
The Department of Pharmacology is building and expanding a multidisciplinary research program focusing on the pathophysiological role of oxidants, free radicals and gaseous transmitters (NO, CO, H2S) in physiological processes and in various pathophysiological conditions, including various cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, critical illness and cancer. The scientific environment is extremely dynamic and highly collaborative.
The successful applicant will have numerous opportunities to grow and expand his/her conceptual and technical horizons, to contribute to the expansion of the research into new directions, and to collaborate with leading scientists and specialized institutes locally and worldwide. The direction of the research will focus on H2S biology, but it will be tailored either to metabolic disease or to cancer, depending on the most qualified applicant’s interests and background.
Applicants should have proven skills in:
•Written and Spoken English
•Meeting targets within a timetable
•Team-work
Responsibilities of the PhD candidate:
•Bring ideas to the research topic
•Establish or improve various experimental techniques
•Conduct laboratory research using pharmacological, molecular and biochemical tools
•Organize and analyze data, write publications•Collaborate with a network of investigators internally and externally
•Publish and present findings in international meetings and journals•Supervise MA students contributing to the research (part-time)
Required qualifications of the PhD candidate:
•M.Sc. degree
•Background in pharmacology and/or experimental medicine and/or cell biology
•Interest in pathophysiological processes and hydrogen sulfide
•Background in free radical biochemistry or gaso transmitter biology is a plus
•We are looking for dynamic, highly motivated, meticulous, pro-active candidates with excellent conceptual and methodological background and superb problem-solving and analytical skills.
Applications must include in a single PDF:
•Cover letter (summarizing motivation and expertise for the position)•Curriculum vitae
•Publication list and sample of writing (e.g. Master’s thesis, scientific articles)
•Official university transcripts
