For an ERC consolidator grant at the Laboratory for Functional Polymers, we are searching for a

PhD student in the synthesis of polymeric materials

You will work on a research project in the field of novel dielectric elastic materials. The emphasis will be on synthesizing specially designed polymers and elastomers with improved dielectric properties. Additionally, their dielectric, mechanical, and electromechanical properties will be evaluated. You will be part of a strong team active at the forefront of elastomeric materials development.


We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in synthetic, organic and polymer chemistry. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary field is important as well as being open to new things. The PhD candidate needs to be proficient in spoken and written English and has a Master’s degree.


We are offering a modern research environment and excellent infrastructure. The work will be carried out at Empa Dübendorf under the supervision of Dr. Dorina Opris. You will be registered as a PhD student at the ETH or EPFL. The planned project duration is four years.
