The Structure and Mechanics of Advanced Materials Group is a newly formed group within the Photon Science Division performing research on structural and mechanical properties of diverse soft matter systems, including samples of biological origin, as well as of metals and alloys. We are actively developing and applying various X-ray and neutron scattering, diffraction and imaging methods working closely together with various beamlines at SLS and SINQ. Multi-scale characterization with tensor tomography

Your tasks

  • Help to design and build a polarimetric imaging system
  • Perform synchrotron X-ray scattering and imaging experiments, in particular SAXS tensor tomography
  • Investigate biological tissues as well as cellulose-based composite materials with the newly developed techniques
  • Collaborate with PhD students and Postdocs at PSI and Chalmers University (Gothenburg, Sweden)as well as with other international collaboration partners
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present findings at international conferences
