The Department of Biomedicine unites the biomedical laboratory research of the Faculty of Medicine and represents a joint venture of the University of Basel, the University Hospital Basel and the University Children's Hospital Basel.
Central to our mission, non-clinical and clinical scientists work side by side to foster a translational environment across all of our disease-relevant scientific themes, benefiting the lives of patients in areas of unmet need.
The Department of Biomedicine invites qualified candidates to apply for a postdoctoral position in Medicinal Chemistry. The candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team focusing on the development of new bioactive molecules targeting major signaling pathways in cancer and inflammation. Main targets are stress kinases vital for metabolic control and immune checkpoint modulation in cancer therapy.
The working place of the successful candidate is the Department of Biomedicine at Mattenstrasse 28, 4057 Basel.


Your position

  • Design, development and implementation of multi-step syntheses to access small heterocyclic molecules.
  • Improve biological activity of hit compounds through structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary environment (collaboration with biologists, organic chemists and computational chemists).
  • Writing of scientific publications, patents and regulatory reports.


Your profile
The successful candidate holds a PhD in organic chemistry. Expertise in organic synthesis with emphasis on the synthesis of biologically active molecules is desired. The candidate has an excellent proven track record in the publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles and/or patents.
