100%, Zurich, fixed-term
A PhD position is available in the Functional Inorganic Material group (KovalenkoLab ) at ETH Zurich (Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences). The research activities in Functional Inorganic Material group are focused on challenges related to the chemistry, physics, and applications of inorganic materials ranging from nanostructures to powders, thin films, and single crystals. Central to our efforts is the synthesis of new materials and their applications into multifunctional optoelectronic applications. Synthetic work, thorough materials characterization and innovative device fabrication are the cornerstones of our research. The PhD position is available in collaboration with Empa, group of nanoelectronics and nano-optics.
Job description
The project aims to develop a conceptually new type of photodetector arrays based on perovskite materials for the next generation of imaging cameras. The research activities involve synthesis (thermal co-evaporation) and deposition (for solution-based materials) in the form of thin films. The activities also will include pattering, contact and charge selective/blocking layers deposition, and comprehensive characterization of the device`s optoelectronic properties. Research considers strong collaboration with industrial partners.
State-of-the-art electronic device fabrication methods (solution and solid-state crystal growth, PVD, lithography, including clean-room facilities) will be applied during program execution. Furthermore, advanced optical and electronic characterization methods for charge transport techniques will be used.
Your profile
Highly motivated candidates should have
- recently obtained a master's degree in physics, chemistry, material science, or engineering with outstanding grades
- strong experimental background in solid-state physics and optics, electronics and have basic knowledge of chemistry
- excellent communication skills and fluency in English (both written and oral) are mandatory
- an experience in the area of photodetectors, thin-film deposition methods will be beneficial
- a strong background in experimental hardware and programming skills will be beneficial
