Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The University of Lucerne is the youngest university in Switzerland. Founded in 2000, it has four faculties and around 3,000 students. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with its ten institutes and departments focuses on interdisciplinarity and innovation in research and teaching. Funded, four year Ph.D position
at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology,

The candidate will conduct 12 months of ethnographic research on adoption in Russia as part of a four-year project led by Bettina Beer and Laura Preissler, entitled: De-kinning? Adoption, Estrangement, Divorce, and Irreconcilable Conflict among Intimates

Requirements

  • The candidate should have a 1st Class Hons or MA (or equivalent) in anthropology or a suitable cognate discipline and be prepared to relocate to Lucerne
  • Regional specialization on Russia and/or Eastern Europe, preferably with some fieldwork experience and an interest in recent kinship literature
  • Proficiency in English and Russian
