Doctorate in Medicine 100% Master Student in Microbiology 100%

We have a fundamental understanding of how antibiotics inhibit bacterial growth and how bacteria overcome growth restriction (drug resistance). Much less is known about bacterial killing. How do some bacteria survive a normally deadly treatment? Are these bacteria responsible for treatment failures during infection? Can we target these cells with novel therapies? We are working at the interface of genomics, experimental microbiology and patient care to tackle these questions. If you are curious and motivated, get in touch with us!
The research group "Pulmonary Infection Biology" at the Department of Biomedicine
(University of Basel, Switzerland) is looking for a medical student and a master student.

Your position
You will design and run experiments involving next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, live-cell imaging, robotics, CRISPR genome editing techniques and others. You will collaborate with national and international research groups (e.g. Biozentrum, Basel; SwissTPH, Basel; ETH Zürich; University of Cambridge, UK).

Your profile
We are looking for talented candidates passionate to drive the understanding of bacterial strategies overcoming drug treatment. We encourage applicants that are highly selfmotivated and committed, have a proactive mindset and a getting-things-done attitude, and can work well in an interdisciplinary environment. An experience in microbiology techniques and bioinformatics is beneficial but not essential. All applicants need to be fluent in English.

We offer you
We offer you an independent research project and interdisciplinary training in a young motivated research team. You will work in a dynamic research environment, with state-of the- art research facilities and enthusiastic colleagues from different nationalities and scientific backgrounds. We encourage participation in seminars and presentations at national and international scientific meetings. The anticipated starting date is the beginning of 2022.
