Offer Description
We have the power of over 40,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting the challenges of the day. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application!
We are looking for a PhD student in Applied Physics, with the focus on electronic properties and device performance of two-dimensional crystals of organic semiconductors.
Your work assignments
The main focus of your research is to investigate the growth of large-area two-dimensional crystal of organic semiconductors (2DCOS) films with well-controlled thickness to approach their potential applications (e.g., energy conversion, light emission, memory and sensing) and to probe their electronic properties correlated to the corresponding device performance. You will fabricate organic semiconductor thin films, 2DCOS crystals and device fabrication and (opto)electronic characterization in our cleanroom full with characterization equipment, further explore the chemical, physical and electronic structure of 2DCOS films based on a wide variety of surface science techniques both in house and at synchrotron radiation laboratories to characterize them, e.g., angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to map the band structure to correlate with mobility results obtained in device, the momentum-dependent interband transition to shed light on the exciton dispersion related to photophysical properties, etc.
You will work in a multi-group research environment consisting also of theorists, chemists and device scientists with a wide range of international collaborations.
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level in physics, chemistry, engineering physics, material science, or equivalent background or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in the disciplines listed above. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
Verifiable verbal and writing communication skills in English. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to communicate clearly and to interact with colleagues and staff. The interested candidate should be strongly self-motivated, show a keen interest in science and fundamental research, and be willing to work in a team. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
Your workplace
The Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE, www.liu.se/LOE ) at the Department of Science and Technology is a vibrant, international and collaborative research environment of around 130 researchers. We study conducting organic materials and hybrid materials, and their use in an array of areas spanning energy harvesting, printed electronics, photonics, and bioelectronics. The PhD position is placed in the Surface Physics and Chemistry group at LOE (liu.se/en/research/surface-physics-and-chemistry) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Xianjie Liu.
The employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University
The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.
Starting date by agreement.
