The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations
Division
Our research focuses mainly on host-bacterial interactions, with projects ranging from bacterial regulatory systems to innate immune responses in the host. The research program includes studies on the molecular pathogenesis of Klebsiella pneumoniae infections from looking at host-pathogen interactions, immune response, and the role of K. pneumoniae infection in tumorigenesis. In our group, you will be able to gather knowledge ranging from basic microbiology, immune response and cancer biology.
Duties
We are looking for a student on master study level for 5 months to work primarily on Klebsiella pneumoniae pathogenicity. Specifically, the project aims to perform in cellulo infections and characterize the immune response using a Klebsiella strains library. The project also involves high trough put microscopy and cell profiler analysis. In addition, the student will maintain a lab notebook with thorough and organized data, as well as oral and written communication of the results will be required.
Entry requirements
A scholarship on undergraduate and graduate level education aim to provide undergraduate or advanced level students early practical experience of research work to strengthen the link between education and research and encourage future studies at the doctoral level.
The scholarships can either be given for studies within an existing course, or for a shorter period of practice research experience (documented by an individual study plan / research plan) for admitted students at undergraduate or advanced level.
The scholarships may only be awarded to:
- persons admitted (and registered in Ladok) to undergraduate education or advanced level at KI,
- persons admitted (and registered) to basic education, or advanced level at a university with which KI collaborates.
The scholarships may be established for a maximum of 12 months, divided into a maximum of four courses / periods.
Location: Solna
Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and can be established for a maximum of twelve months.
