Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry https://www.slu.se/en/departments/anatomy-physiology-biochemistry/ develops knowledge and teach on the common domestic animal’s anatomy and physiology. We work with livestock animals, sports- and accompanying animals as well as experimental animals, wildlife, insects and spiders. We teach the basic subject’s anatomy, histology, physiology and biochemistry on all educational programs at the faculty. We perform research and doctoral education within fields that stretch from molecular and cellular mechanisms to the form and function of the whole animal, as well as how animals are affected by physical labour, production, stress, diseases, management and environmental factors. We are situated in VHC, SLU Uppsala and are about 50 employees.

The research group in protein biochemistry consists of a professor and a doctoral student working at SLU, as well as a doctoral student, three postdocs, two technicians and a researcher working at Karolinska Institutet. We work with spider silk biology, protein biochemistry, artificial spider silk and tissue engineering, see our website https://www.slu.se/cv/anna-rising/

We are looking for a candidate for a postdoctoral scholarship in studies of spider silk spinning and generation of artificial silk. We will fix, section and run spatial transcriptomics on spiders, analyze the results and possibly produce and characterize the proteins that are potentially important for fiber formation, as well as spin and analyze fibers made from these proteins. Previous experience in similar bioinformatics analyzes and experience in histology or protein biochemistry and recombinant protein production and purification is an advantage.
