Postdoctoral position - Environmental impact of handling and use of organic fertilizers

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

At the department of Energy and Technology, research and education are conducted focusing on how agriculture can contribute to a sustainable society. We have expertise in technology and systems for sustainable production of food and bioenergy, including optimal nutrient recirculation and logistic systems. Within the field of methodology, we have extensive competences in Systems Analysis including Environmental Systems Analysis and LCA, as well as Biometrics (statistics and mathematics with application in biological systems).

Duties:

We are looking for a Post Doc who can calculate and analyze the environmental impact in a life cycle perspective when applying different technologies for separation and redistribution of manure or digestate. The work includes e.g. modeling mass and nutrient flows, energy use, transport and spatial redistribution from areas of high nutrient availability to areas with high nutrient demand. The work is conducted in collaboration with researchers at the Department of Soil and Environment, SLU, and RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), studying different methods for nitrogen and phosphorous separation in laboratory and pilot scale. The position may also involve LCA based studies on other parts of the agricultural production system.

Qualifications:

As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most. The applicant should hold a PhD in technology or engineering with a specialization including environmental assessment of agricultural or biogas systems. Documented experiences of Life Cycle Assessment, computer-based modeling, ability to independently initiate, conduct and complete research projects for publishing the findings in international peer-reviewed journals are required. The holder of the position must be able to communicate in English, while ability to communicate in Swedish is a merit. Analytical and problem solving ability, motivation, and ability to work independently as well as in a team are considered important personality traits for this position.
