Department of Plant Biology

The successful applicant will work in the research group of German Martinez at the Department of Plant Biology at the SLU, Uppsala. The department has approximately 90 employees and conducts research focused on plant development biology, diversity and defense (https://www.slu.se/en/departments/plant-biology-forest-genetics/ ). The department belongs to Uppsala BioCentrum (https://internt.slu.se/en/support-services/campus-and-buildings/uppsala-biocenter/ ), an excellent research environment that combines expertise in plant biology, forest mycology and plant pathology, microbiology, food science, chemistry and biotechnology with a high-quality infrastructure including consisting of modern plant cultivation facilities and equipment for advanced microscopy as well as molecular biology. The department is also part of the Linnaeus Center for Plant Biology in Uppsala (www.lcpu.se ), a platform for interactions between plant researchers at SLU and Uppsala University. Description:

The doctoral project will focus on analyzing the transcriptomic reprogramming of plant genomes (Arabidopsis thaliana and other model systems) during reproduction to exploit this knowledge to generate tools for plant breeding.


Qualifications:

Higher university degree in biology/molecular biology/ genetics (Degree of Master or Master of Science) with emphasis on plant molecular biology, plant physiology, developmental biology or bioinformatics. Good knowledge of molecular biology analysis techniques is essential. The ability to conduct independent scientific work and to work within the framework of a research group, as well as the ability to express oneself in English in writing and speech is a requirement, as English is the everyday language in the research group. The selection will be based on the written application, CV, diploma/exam work, personal references, good knowledge in English and an interview.

To qualify for third-cycle (Doctoral) courses and study programmes, you must have a second-cycle (Master’s) qualification. Alternatively, you must have conducted a minimum of four years of full-time study, of which a minimum of one year at second-cycle level.
