Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in Traffic Systems, focusing on the calibration of network models
formally based at the Department of Science and Technology, Campus Norrköping.

Duties
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Your PhD work will be conducted within the research project “Capacity calibration in dynamic transportation network models”, which is funded by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). You will, jointly with researchers from Linköping University and the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), develop and implement a new road network capacity calibration method. You will present your research at national and international conferences and publish your findings in international journals. You will demonstrate your results in an existing MATSim model system for the City of Stockholm.

Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Your research will focus on the application of mathematical techniques to a concrete transportation modeling problem. A sound background in mathematical modeling, statistics and optimization is necessary. Programming skills, ideally in Java, are required. Transport-specific training is desirable but not necessary. A suitable background for the position is a Degree of Master of Science in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Transportation, combined with a strong willingness-to-learn.

Good skills in spoken and written English are required.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.

Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department’s salary scale.
