Offer Description

Information about the division and the department
At the Department of Electrical Engineering , we conduct internationally renowned research in biomedical engineering, antenna systems, signal processing, image analysis, automatic control, automation, mechatronics, and communication systems. We offer a dynamic and international research environment with about 200 employees from more than 20 countries, and with extensive national and international research collaborations with academia, industry and society. The department provides around 100 courses, of which most are included in the Master’s Programs ”Biomedical Engineering”, ”Systems, Control and Mechatronics”, ”Communication Engineering” and "Electrical Power Engineering".

Major responsibilities
In this position you will perform research on signal processing for emerging radar- and communication systems with many antennas (MIMO). At the start, the focus will be on the case when there is a strong interfering signal that tend to overshadow the desired receive signal, and by modelling interferer and physical environment, and by smart receiver side algorithms, we will find the best solution. The continued research will depend on the bottle necks in the studied systems, and on the interest of the researcher. The applications are the upcoming 6G standard, entirely novel communication techniques, distributed radar processing, medical applications etc.

As a key member of a cross-disciplinary team your research will combine theory and algorithms with experimental real-world investigations using Chalmers advanced multi-antenna testbed. Your research is an important part of our goal to demonstrate energy efficient and high capacity wireless communication systems and radar systems.

You are also expected to work as a teaching assistant in some relevant courses. Read more about doctoral studies at Chalmers here .

Qualifications
Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a Master of Science or equivalent in a field related to signal processing or communications, preferably connected to multiantenna signals. In addition to the formal qualifications, selection is also based on the performance of the candidates in other works (e.g. thesis and advanced level courses), as well as through interviews. Besides good subject knowledge, emphasis will be on analytical ability, motivation, ability to cooperate, initiative to work independently.

To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in a relevant field.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
