Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.

The Department of Mathematics conducts research and provides education at undergraduate and graduate levels in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The number of employees is 130, including 40 PhD students. The Department has three research programs: analysis and probability, algebra and geometry, applied mathematics and statistics. The student is automatically admitted to WASP Graduate School and should participate in offered courses and activities.

The main focus of the research will be the mathematical analysis of PDEs, in particular diffusion equations, with an emphasis on connections to deep learning. In terms of methods, the research will mainly fall into the realm of pure mathematics, but may also include some numerical and computational components.

Requirements
To meet the entry requirements for doctoral studies, you must

  • hold a Master’s (second-cycle) degree in Mathematics, or
