The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences is one of the university’s largest departments, with operations mainly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Our aim is to engage in medical and biomedical education and research of high international standing. We are looking for a PhD student in Medical Science, formally based at the Division of Neurobiology, Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences.
Your work assignments
As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
As a PhD student you will participate in the project: “Development of new ion channel opening compounds”.
Your workplace
Your workplace will be the Division of Neurobiology (NEURO) , at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) . BKV carries out research, undergraduate and postgraduate education within Health Sciences.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level in medicine or biomedicine with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in medicine or biomedicine. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
It is advantageous if you have experience from electrophysiological studies of voltage-gated ion channels, either by two-electrode voltage clamp, patch clamp or automatic patch clamp. Great emphasis will be given to your ability to work independently.
Terms of employment

The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.

The salary of doctoral students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
