PhD student in infrainformatics with a focus on vehicular digital twinning

We are now looking for a PhD student in infrainformatics with a focus on vehicular digital twinning 


Your work assignments

You will be part of the EU-Funded Horizon Europe project TWINAIR. The research aims to contribute to the development of a digital twin for a shared vehicle, as well as addressing questions such as how sensory and passenger information can be utilized to evaluate the comfort and air quality in the vehicle. Digital visual models of certain shared vehicles are to be constructed and linked to models and tools for air quality and/or passenger comfort estimation and prediction. There is a need to co-author articles and collaborate with researchers from other TWINAIR partner sites.  

As a PhD student, you devote yourself to your doctoral education and research project where you are included. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other institutional assignments, up to 20% of full time.


Your qualifications

You have completed a degree at an advanced level in computer science, engineering, informatics or information technology or completed courses of at least 240 higher education credits of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced or in some other way acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.

We are looking for someone who has experience in computer science, software engineering with a strong capacity in estimation/prediction tools. We also expect you to have significant experience in programming and in conducting literature studies, writing reports, and a desire for an ongoing academic career. Additional experience in digital twins and/or sensory data analysis will be considered a plus.

You are expected to have very good ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English, while good communication in Swedish are a plus.

We are looking for someone who takes initiative, takes responsibility for their tasks and drives processes forward with great perseverance to achieve results. We also see that you have good collaboration skills where you are responsive to your surroundings and communicate well.

You are a problem solver and work well with complex issues, understand complicated written documents and produce documents of high quality yourself. Furthermore, you have a good understanding of numerical documents and solve numerical tasks quickly and easily.

Great emphasis will be placed to personal qualities and suitability.


Your workplace

You will belong to the Department of Science and Technology (ITN) which is known for its activities in logistics, visualization and organic electronics. We combine academic height with fruitful collaboration with the surrounding society. The position belongs to the Department of Communication and Transport Systems (KTS) , which is one of the largest environments for research and education in the transport area in the Nordic countries. The operations are conducted within the units Traffic Systems, Quantitative Logistics, Rail and Public Transport, Mobile Telecommunications, Construction Logistics and Construction Technology. The research is mainly externally funded and is carried out in close collaboration with industry, authorities and society. In undergraduate education, we are responsible for six education programs.

The current position will be linked to the research area of Telecommunications for Smart Cities, where the research is need-driven. The overall goal of the research is to design flexible and effective digital twin systems with regard to data openness, and information dissemination quality to different stakeholders.


The employment

When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University

The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.

Starting date by agreement

This position may come to be a security classified position. If so, security screening including a records check will be carried out before any decision on employment is made.

The salary of PhD students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
