We are now looking for a PhD student in Information Coding.

Your work assignments

The research will focus on the inner workings of quantum computers, and what property that makes them more powerful than ordinary classical computers. A necessary property of quantum systems is so called quantum contextuality which is somewhat similar to non-locality that received the Nobel prize in physics 2022. This project will research quantum contextuality at a detailed level, and how different kinds of quantum contextuality can make quantum computers faster than classical computers. The project is financed by the Swedish science council, and the long-term goal is to enable better tools for building well-functioning quantum computers.

As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Your qualifications

You have completed a degree at advanced level in Electrical Engineering/Applied Physics or completed courses of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in some other way acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.

Selection for postgraduate education takes place according to the assessed ability to assimilate the postgraduate education. When filling this position, the following competencies will be particularly considered:

- For the dissertation and the subject relevant knowledge and skills, for example demonstrated through completed courses at advanced level especially related to quantum computers, quantum computer algorithms, and the foundations of quantum mechanics, but also more in general mathematics, theoretical physics, mathematical modelling, and programming.

- Ability to work independently and ability to formulate and tackle technical and scientific problems.

- Good ability for written and oral communication, including good knowledge of English in terms of both speech and writing. We produce a study plan when the employment begins, so a declaration of intent does not need to be sent with the application.

Your workplace
