The Department of Zoology has a long history of basic and applied research of animal species, from arthropods to large mammals, from the perspectives of its five divisions: Ecology, Ethology, Population Genetics, Functional Morphology, and Systematics and Evolution. The advertised position will be affiliated to the Division of Ecology. There is a long-standing tradition for researchers at the Department of Zoology to collaborate amongst divisions and with researchers from other fields and universities.
Project description
The Department of Zoology invites applications for a four-year PhD position about dispersal patterns, gene flow and connectivity in the Scandinavian arctic fox. The purpose of this project is to investigate the Arctic fox dispersal behavior and habitat use in relation to ecological and landscape variation. Further, the project will assess the extent of gene flow and population structure across the Scandinavian distribution range. The questions will be adressed using GPS collars and genetic analyses. We search for a candidate with good knowledge in ecology, conservation biology and population genetics. Experience of fieldwork, genetic analyses and processing telemetry data are considered important qualifications.
Qualification requirements
In order to meet the general entry requirements, the applicant must have completed a second-cycle degree, completed courses equivalent to at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 credits must be in the second cycle, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or elsewhere.
In order to meet the specific entry requirements, the general syllabus for doctoral studies in the field of Ecology stipulates that applicants must have completed a research degree (e.g. Master’s) or have passed at least 120 hp (2 years) of biological studies, including an approved independent project of at least 30 hp at advanced level (“examensarbete”) within ecology or a related subject.
