At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, information designers, network technicians and engineers. Here we have the research specialisations of Embedded Systems, and Innovation and Product Realisation. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

Access to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education education as well as basic eligibility requirements and assessment criteria, are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 7 §§ 34–41(SFS 1993:100). More information about third-cycle studies at MDU
A full-time employment as a doctoral student is attached to this third-cycle studies which corresponds to four years.
Position description
As a member of the MATISSE project, you will engage in various research activities, both independently and in collaboration with national and European partners. Examples of responsibilities include participating in project meetings, presenting research results at conferences and workshops, and managing milestones and outcomes associated with MATISSE.
Qualifications
For basic eligibility, the following is required:
- A degree at an advanced level.
- At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level in computer science or related discipline
- Equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad through other means.
Assessment criteria
Prior to employment, consideration must be given to the ability to assimilate third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education. Additionally, special emphasis will be placed on the following:
- Demonstrated proficiency in English, both written and spoken (C2 level according to The Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR).
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Java and Python, including experience with development environments.
- Basic knowledge of digital twins.
- Established understanding of software engineering principles, model-driven engineering, testing methods, and related technologies.
It is advantageous if you have any of the following:
- Experience with model-driven engineering techniques and tools, including familiarity with modeling languages, transformations, and platforms such as Eclipse.
- Experience in related areas.

You have the ability to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively, both in writing and verbally. This includes articulating complex concepts in accessible language during one-on-one meetings and presentations for both small and large groups. You also demonstrate strong listening skills, show openness to feedback, and have the ability to adapt your communication style to fit the audience and context. You are meticulous in your approach and dedicated to your work. Additionally, you are skilled at prioritizing your tasks to meet deadlines and achieve goals, even under pressure.
