PhD student in astrophysics, with focus on stellar activity and magnetism

The Division of Astronomy and Space Physics at Uppsala University is seeking a PhD student to work in the field of stellar activity and magnetism under supervision of Prof. Oleg Kochukhov. The successful candidate will work on detecting and characterizing magnetic fields and related activity phenomena on stellar surfaces using observations with ground-based optical and infrared telescopes as well as photometry from space. This research work will include collecting observational data, analyzing the data with advanced computational methods, and comparison with theoretical models.

The doctoral student position is a 4-year appointment, and the candidate will primarily devote time to their own research studies. Extension, up to one year, is possible by including department duties at a level of up to 20%, typically teaching. The position is fully financed and the salary is in accordance with local guidelines at Uppsala University . The starting date for the employment is September 1, 2024 or as agreed.

The applicants should have a master degree in astronomy or physics. Previous experience of research and/or study in astronomy, study results, and programming skills will be considered a merit.
