We are looking for a PhD student in Applied Physics, with focus on surface physics of organic semiconductors
Your work assignments
The main focus of your research is to investigate the fundamental properties of doped organic semiconductors. By exploring the chemical, physical and electronic structure of doped organic films and how these properties interact to control stability and conductivity, you will contribute to optimized design of materials and doping processes for application in organic electronics and bioelectronics. You will use a wide variety of surface science techniques both in house and at synchrotron radiation laboratories to characterize the materials and model systems thereof. You will work in a multi-group research environment consisting also of theorists, chemists and device scientists. Your research project is a part of a larger project called “Stable Doping of Organic Semiconductors”, supported by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and involves 5 research groups from Linköping University and Chalmers University of Technology.
As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
Your workplace
The Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE, www.liu.se/LOE ) at the Department of Science and Technology is a vibrant, international and collaborative research environment of around 130 researchers. We study conducting organic materials and hybrid materials, and their use in an array of areas spanning energy harvesting, printed electronics, photonics, and bioelectronics. The PhD position is placed in the Surface Physics and Chemistry group at LOE (liu.se/en/research/surface-physics-and-chemistry ) under the supervision of Prof. Mats Fahlman.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level physics, chemistry, engineering physics, material science, or equivalent background or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in the disciplines listed above. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
Verifiable verbal and writing communication skills in English. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to communicate clearly and to interact with colleagues and staff. The interested candidate should be strongly self-motivated, show a keen interest in science and fundamental research, and be willing to work in a team. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
Terms of employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University
The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.
Starting date
By agreement, preferable not later than September 2023.
Salary and employment benefits
The salary of PhD students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression. The current starting salary for PhD students at LOE is 31 500 SEK/month + social benefits.
