The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 250 employees and has a turnover of 250 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted a research environment focused on the development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterise them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques. The research is, as such, both fundamental and applied.
The PhD project will be carried out within the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre and the research programme for Structural Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry - Ångström. The research project will focus on development and characterization of solid polymer materials as electrolytes for Li-batteries. Polymer materials are today attracting a large interest for battery applications. Not least is this true for the electrolyte, where polymers can be used as host materials for the salt, thereby rendering a polymer electrolyte. Ion transport, electrochemical stability and characterization of the interface between electrode and electrolyte is at the center for the studies. The field spans polymer chemistry, physical and chemical characterization of polymers and interfaces, and electrochemistry.
- has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
- has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits at Master's level, including an independent project of at least 15 credits, or the equivalent.
- very good oral and written proficiency in English.
- a degree in Chemistry, Physics or Materials science.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
Experiences of polymer materials and/or batteries is advantageous, as is knowledge of photoelectron spectroscopy methods.
