Deadline: 10 Jan 2022

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Biotechnology

Advanced technological platforms are increasingly used for the analysis of biomolecules in tissues, blood or cells, to understand diseases and develop diagnostic tools that can improve the healthcare. We use technological platforms to understand molecular alterations in patients with monogenic diseases, that are chronic, rare and cause premature death. By studying molecules over time, using affinity- or mass spectrometry based methods, we can increase our understanding about disease development, altered pathological processes that give rise to symptoms and find possibilities to cure the disease. Analyzing biomolecules in tissues, blood or cell models, allows us to find important information that can help improve the health care provided to patients as well as assist in the development and evaluation of new treatments that prolong life. The candidate applying for this position is expected to participate in research aiming to develope protein biomarkers for a specific use in a clinical context as well as for drug development. The research is conducted in collaboration with doctors, geneticists and bioinformatics as well as pharmaceutical companies. The doctoral student position also includes 10% departmental service.

Supervision: Cristina Al-Khalili Szigyarto is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
