Wood has a special role as a renewable resource in the change towards a more bio-based society. It is at the same time important to use it in an economic and a sustainable way. One solution is the use the right wood in the right place and therefore achieve a prolonged service-time and an even more decreased carbon footprint. One of the challenges of wood constructions is the maintenance cost for wood surfaces that have exterior exposure. Exterior wood is constantly exposed to degradation from example weathering and microorganism colonization.
This work aims to develop the area of material usage by investigating how to use wood for more durable products mainly focused on exterior purposes. This work covers activities around wood durability and wood characteristics. The project is in collaboration with the industry and organisations in wood processing and wood constructions.
The task includes both to perform individual research about material use but also to report the results outside the academia.
