You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our Materials Research and Technology department

Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

How will you contribute?

In the framework of an ongoing project with an industrial partner, we are applying advanced solid-state NMR experiments to study the fate of adjuvants used in the manufacture of composite materials. The candidate is expected to study the interaction of selected probe molecules with the compound material, i.e., interaction with and repartition between filler material and matrix. To this end, the selected candidate will apply, a.o., surface selective solid-state NMR techniques to identify the localisation of these entities in the material.

The selected candidate will join our advanced characterization platform for supporting the activities related to organic/polymer synthesis through the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance characterization in the context of an ongoing project with an industrial partner.

The selected candidate will carry out NMR analyses (liquid and solid state) and will actively participate to the development of new methodologies in the framework of the project. The responsibilities will also include:

  • preparing the samples to be analysed by NMR
  • performing measurements and interpreting the analysis results
  • documenting and archiving the results and related data, including the writing of reports in the context of the project
