The Social Sciences and Agrobiology group at the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA-CSIC, Canary Islands, Spain), is seeking candidates for both the JdC Training (2-year) and JdC Incorporation (3-year) contracts offered by the government of Spain. Social scientists interested in all aspects of food production and consumption are welcomed, especially anthropologists, sociologists, geographers, historians, economists and tourism experts.

Researchers selected through this process will only be hired if their application is successful in the competitive call by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation in any of these calls.

The line of research in Social Sciences and Agrobiology aims to establish a connection between social sciences and natural sciences as part of an integrated, interdisciplinary and sustainable approach applied to agrobiological practices and processes. This line seeks to understand the processes by which traditional agricultural products generate images of quality, are differentiated in the market and allow the valorization of the product, with the ultimate goal of promoting the transition to a healthy, sustainable and ecological agro-biological and food system. Through anthropology and the sociology of heritage and food, it seeks to characterize the interrelationship between productive processes and the area of consumption.

Specifically, the Canarian wine sector is analyzed at the crossroads between heritage conservation and the promotion of sustainable tourism. This sector presents important challenges regarding the typification and characterization of traditional, differentiated, local and authentic products, whose survival depends on both adaptation to climate change and transformations in the area of consumption. The need to preserve the history, heritage, authenticity, tradition and qualities of Canarian wine is linked to the need to promote the image or quality brand of wine with the potential to reach different audiences, both local and enotourist.

How to apply:

Interested applicants should send a brief motivation e-mail and a short CV before the December 18th, indicating “Juan de la Cierva” in the email subject.

The selected candidates must apply to the 2021 Juan de la Cierva call that will be launched in December 2021.
