Publication date: November 19, 2021

Description of the project and position offered
A predoctoral position is immediately available in the structural biology of disease mechanisms laboratory led by Ikerbasque Research professor Iban Ubarretxena (https://www.ikerbasque.net/es/iban-ubarretxena-belandia ) at Instituto Biofisika in Bilbao, Spain (www.biofisika.org ). We employ high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), in combination with functional experiments, to uncover the structure and mechanism of action of macromolecular protein complexes involved in human disease. The goal of our research is to open new therapeutic avenues by understanding the role of these protein complexes in pathogenesis. For recent publications from the laboratory see:
Nat Struct Mol Biol. 2020 10:913; Nature Commun. 2020 10:2699; Nature Struct. Mol. Biol. 2019 26:955, Cell Res. 2019 29:313. The successful applicant will be able to participate in international multidisciplinary projects and have the opportunity for short stays in partner international research institutions.
