Pre-doctoral fellow to identify the epigenetic mechanisms and biomarkers associated with neurological dysfunction in chronic HIV infection and persistent COVID-19 diseases.

IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute located on the Hospital Germans Trias I Pujol research campus has an opening in the Cellular Immunity and Host Genetics group for a Pre-doctoral fellow to participate in the investigation of the impact that HIV and COVID-19 infections have on the central nervous system.

The main objective of the project is the identification of the epigenetic cascades triggered upon either of these viral infections and definition of biomarkers predictive of neuro-(dis)function in HIV and SARS-CoV2- related diseases.

Under the direction of the principal investigator and associate researcher, the applicant carries out daily activities in the laboratory for the development of doctoral thesis framed in the context of NeuroEpiCas.

Details: BSL2, BSL3 and BSL3 plus techniques for identification of epigenetic mechanisms and biomarkers validation in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid and functional in vitro experiments for testing new antiviral drugs will be the major tasks in which the Pre-doctoral fellow will be trained. The emerging results will also be discussed and presented in meetings during the course of the PhD training.
