Updated: 10 months ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behaviour of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for three consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022 and 2023-2026). ICN2 comprises 20 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Job Title: PhD student on AFM and Nanocalorimetry of disordered ultrathin materials

Research area or group: Thermal Properties of Nanoscale Materials

Description of Group/Project: The Group of Thermal Properties of Nanoscale Materials (GTNaM) at ICN2 has been working on stable vapor-deposited organic glasses and some of their applications for the past 10 years. Recent works include: the increase efficiency of organic light-emitting devices (OLEDS) using ultrastable glasses (Sci. Adv. 2018), the transformation mechanisms of stable glasses (Phys. Rev. Lett. 2019 and 2020), the absence of two-level systems in the low-temperature regime (PNAS, 2014) and the anisotropy in the thermal transport of these materials (Phys. Rev. Mat. 2018), among many other works.

This position is to work on ultrastable glasses, a research line well stablished in the group and it is giving very good results and we expect this position will strength our activities in this area.
