PhD Student - Neuropharmacology

Updated: 8 months ago
Deadline: 29 Nov 2019

We are searching for a motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic PhD student to join the Neuropharmacology and Pain research group at the University of Barcelona ( ). The selected candidate will apply for a 4-years FPI fellowship associated to the project entitledTrans-synaptic complex composed by CB1 -A2A and mGlu5 in the hippocampus as substrate for the therapeutics effects of cannabinoids in Alzheimer’s disease”, recently granted by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades

Previous results from our research group show that the combination of the natural cannabinoid compounds D9 -tetrahydrocannabinol (D9 -THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) might offer a multi-faceted strategy against Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of these compounds in AD are not completely elucidated. By using novel pharmacological techniques to study GPCRs interactions in combination with complementary in vivo and in vitro experimental approaches, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the elucidation of the role played by CB1 , A2A and mGlu5 receptors in such therapeutic effects. The consecution of these objectives might contribute to optimize a future multimodal therapy against AD based on these natural cannabinoids.

We may offer a nine-months contract to support competitive PhD applications until the FPI fellowship will be resolved.
