The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research ' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic PhD Student to join the Microtubule Function and Cell Division lab on a project led by Prof. Isabelle Vernos.
The successful candidate will investigate the role and regulation of microtubule post-translational modifications during cell division.

About the team

The Microtubule Function and Cell Division lab studies the mechanisms that ensure the faithful segregation of the chromosomes during cell division. Chromosome segregation fidelity is essential for the viability and genomic integrity of cells and organisms. Aneuploidy, the imbalance of chromosome number per cell, is one of the most common cause of miscarriages and a hallmark of cancer cells. We particularly focus on the mechanisms that control and define microtubule nucleation, dynamics and organization during mitosis.  We use tissue culture cells and Xenopus laevis frog egg extracts as model systems. We collaborate with several groups in Spain and abroad for work in other experimental systems and in humans.
