Offer Description

Will you take a challenge to rebuild highly dynamic molecular interactions to understand how bacteria grow and divide? If yes, consider to join the Bottom-up Cell Biology Lab at CIC biomaGUNE for a PhD project in biochemistry and bioengineering (microfluidics). In this project, you will rebuild in vitro peptidoglycan synthesis machinery to explore the mechanisms of peptidoglycan synthesis and search for novel efficient inhibitors.

Our group has strong expertise in bottom-up reconstitution in the field of bacterial cell biology (Baranova et al 2020, Hernandez-Rocamora et al 2021, Radler et al 2022) . We employ approaches covering advanced protein biochemistry and reconstitution of transmembrane proteins on polymer-supported lipid membranes. To access molecular interactions, we use a range of surface-sensitive biophysical approaches, as well as single-molecule tracking high-resolution microscopy.

We are young and newly established group looking for excellent, highly motivated, and scientifically curious members. We are also highly committed to ensuring that every team member receives individual support and training and enjoys their time in the lab.

Your profile:

The ideal candidate has a background either in molecular biology, biochemistry/biophysics, cell biology or microbiology with a strong interest in quantitative research:

  • Previous experience in protein purification or microfluidics is highly beneficial
  • Enthusiasm about interdisciplinary research and willingness to learn about new research fields
  • Committed to research excellence
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and carefully
  • Ability to conduct independent research, as well as to work effectively as a member of a research team
  • Good command of English (working language)
  • Good verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

The Institute:

CIC biomaGUNE is a top-equipped international institute dedicated to fundamental and translational research. Its goal is to attract professionals from all over the world and support excellent-level research. The institute is located in San Sebastian, a beautiful city on the Atlantic coast with high standards of living.

CIC biomaGUNE is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, thus all the applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to: age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other classification protected by European, national, or local law.
