PhD position in nanomaterial-biomolecule hybrids.

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 31 Oct 2022

A PhD position is available in Prof Cortajarena's "Biomolecular Nanotechnology" Lab. The aim of the position is, but no limited to: - design, synthesize and characterize photoluminescent nanomaterials, in particular Quantum Dots, for their integration within DNA origami - tune the photoluminescent properties to newly defined specifications and optimize the nanomaterials for immobilization on DNA origami. The project Greener "Single Photon source and detector based on novel materials for the detection of endocrine disruptors" is funded by the European Union s Horizon Europe Cluster 4. The project aim is to develop and provide for the first time a non-dispersive technique of a spectrometer as a nano-(opto)electronic system with an electrically pumped single-photon source (SPS) and a highly efficient single-photon detector (SPD) as innovative new systems building blocks with enhanced performance for the measurement of lowest absorptions.

This is a multidisciplinary project coordinated by the Technical University Chemnitz in Germany and includes 8 different partners from Spain, Germany, France, and Italy.

The project is to be carried out at CIC biomaGUNE, a vibrant multidisciplinary and international research institute in San Sebastian, Spain. CIC biomaGUNE has established a state-of-the-art research program at the interface between the chemical, biological and physical sciences. It offers excellent working conditions and is well equipped with instrumentation and facilities.
