for the funding period of up to 3 years. The funding amount is 1.353 EUR (1,750 EUR for PostDocs) per month, 103 Euro per material cost support per month, plus up to 400 EUR child supplement if the personal requirements are met.

Pronounced price surge in agricultural land markets in many parts of the world in the aftermath of the financial crisis have fueled public debates on whether land markets work efficiently as an allocation device and whether current legislation is in line with political objectives and societal needs. This issue also touches upon basic ethical questions of the role of agriculture in society. Related to this background, the scholarship holder will conduct research on land markets and social acceptance, thereby also investigating cognitive and moral drivers of mental models of stakeholders. The expected findings may subsequently be applied to better understand the public discourse on land market regulations and the prevalent reservation towards market solutions in land markets, such as the admission of non-agricultural investors. This topic is especially relevant in the context of post-soviet countries where the privatization of land causes upheavals not only in the agricultural sector, but also in a larger societal context. The scholarship holder has the opportunity to collaborate with members of the DFG Research Unit FORLand - Agricultural Land Markets - Efficiency and Regulation. IAMO will further support the scholarship holder in the publication of peer-reviewed journal articles.

Prerequisites are (1) a completed scientific study (Master) or a PhD in the field of (agricultural) economics, experimental economics, or experimental or applied ethics, and (2) experience with quantitative methods and statistical analysis. Interest in intensive, interdisciplinary collaboration and very good command in English is also expected. Moreover, the scholarship holder is expected to write articles on the findings for peer-reviewed journal articles.

As a scholarship holder (m/f/d) you can expect the following research conditions at our institute:

  • A unique research and qualification opportunity in a team of young scientists
  • Support in organizing and collecting relevant data
  • Support for designing research studies, data analysis, and academic writing
  • Being part of a network of (applied) ethicists
