The Spectroscopy at Atomic Scale Group at Material Physics Center in San Sebastian (north Spain) is offering a PhD position starting in 2022 in engineering two-dimensional materials to optically control their electronic properties. The successful candidate will be trained in various surface science techniques, acquire various skills, which include handling ultra‐high vacuum equipment preparation of the sample preparation via physical vapor deposition, sample characterization via Auger spectroscopy and state of the art scanning probe techniques at cryogenic temperatures (liquid nitrogen and liquid helium).
The selected candidate will be hired by the Research Association MPC - Materials Physics Center.
The mission of the Spectroscopy at atomic scale laboratory at the Center of Materials Physics is the characterization of surface phenomena occurring at atomic and sub-molecular scale. Surface-supported nanostructures, and interfaces of two dimensional materials are measured with aim to understand the correlation between adsorption geometry, electronic as well as their chemical reactivity. Currently, we additionally aim to tune by external stimuli structure and interface properties and to detect their responsivity. Candidates must hold a Master degree in Physics or Chemistry.
Previous experience in scanning probe techniques and or in surfaces science in ultra high vacuum will be highly appreciated for this position.
Suitable candidates can apply for this position by sending an email to [email protected] including the following information:
1- An updated Curriculum Vitae
2.- A presentation letter with declaration of interests (max. 1 page)
3. Copy of your University level certificates and transcripts to date
4- Two reference letters and/or contact email of two potential referees.
