Offer Description

IRTA is currently seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated PhD candidate to join the Animal Health Program . We invite applications from ambitious candidates with relevant research experience and passion to conduct research and innovation activities on the role of the nasal microbiota for respiratory disease control in pigs.

The Thesis Project involves computational analyses to elucidate the role of the microbiota in piglets’ health.

The nasal microbiota can modulate the shift of some bacteria from colonizers to invasive pathogens and is an important factor in the predisposition to develop invasive disease. We have studied the specific composition of the nasal microbiota in different situations to understand its role. Our final goal is to exploit all this knowledge to avoid the use of antimicrobials by maintaining the health of the piglets through the adequate manipulation of the microbiota and taking advantage of its immunostimulatory properties.
