Offer Description

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated PhD candidate to join our project “Study of Phage-Inducible Chromosomal Islands (PICI) and their helper phages inter-relationship, key in virulence and bacterial adaptation." in the field of structural biology and microbiology in the Molecular Crystallography Unit in Instituto de Biomedicina de Valencia (IBV-CSIC). 

A full time 3-year contract is offered to conduct PhD studies under the supervision of Dra. Laura Miguel-Romero and Dr. Alberto Marina. The laboratory is located in the IBV-CSIC in Valencia (Spain), one of the top research institutions in Spain to work on structural biology and microbiology which inter- and multi-disciplinary research groups.

Tasks to be performed:

• Molecular biology techniques for cloning and mutagenesis
• Heterologous protein expression and purification in Escherichia coli
• Structural biology techniques for protein and DNA 3D reconstruction (crystallography, X-ray diffraction and electro-microscopy)
• Biochemistry assays for protein/DNA characterization (SEC-MALS, BLitZ, footprinting…)
• In vivo characterization of Mobile Genetic Elements
