OCTOBER 2010 - Postdoctoral position in the gamma-ray astrophysics group at IFAE

Updated: about 24 hours ago

IFAE is also part of the CTA consortium ( http://www.mpi-hd.mpg.de/hfm/CTA ), a world-wide project, currently in its preparatory phase, to build the next-generation ground-based gamma-ray observatory. The successful candidate would work in the search for the possible signatures of dark matter in gamma rays of energies above 50 GeV, through observations of promising astrophysical candidates with MAGIC, as well as in the evaluation of the prospects for dark matter research with CTA.

Multimessenger Approach for Dark Matter Detection (MultiDark, http://projects.ift.uam.es/multidark/en/news.php) is a Project supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation's Consolider-Ingenio 2010 Programme, involving most of the Spanish Institutions active on Dark Matter research, and covering all aspects of the subject, theoretical and experimental. It comprises 17 Spanish Research Groups, as well as several foreign members engaged in theoretical, astrophysical, cosmological and experimental aspects of dark matter research. The latter include theoretical and experimental analyses of direct and indirect detection experiments as varied as ANAIS, ROSEBUD, EURECA, GAW, MAGIC, CTA, Fermi-GLAST, PAMELA, ANTARES, KM3NeT, AUGER, JEM-EUSO, LISA, SDSS-III/BOSS. The postdoctoral scholars are expected to work with the existing group members. We encourage applicants in all areas of dark matter research. Selection by the MultiDark steering committee will be on the basis of demonstrated excellence. The appointment will be for two years, although in special cases 2+1 years can also be offered (third year contingent on successful performance). The position includes some travel funds.

Candidates should apply online at: http://projects.ift.uam.es/multidark/en/offerspost.php until December 7th, 2010.
