FUNDED POSTDOCTORAL POSITION– Computational Neuroscience Group

The Basque Center on Cognition Brain and Language – BCBL- (San Sebastián, Basque Country, Spain) is offering one 2-year funded Postdoctoral opportunity.

Job description: The postdoctoral fellow will join the BCBL Computational Neuroscience research group. We are seeking candidates interested in contributing to our current research foci (computational models of speech perception, speech production, and reading, as well as network science and neural network approaches to bilingualism). The postdoctoral fellow will also be encouraged to develop their own research that complements the group's foci. The postdoctoral fellow will also have opportunities to engage in empirical research with human subjects using behavioral paradigms, eye tracking, and/or neuroimaging. The postdoctoral fellow will have full access to the state-of-the-art facilities of the BCBL.

PI and research group: Our group is led by Prof. James Magnuson. We develop computational models with the aim of achieving deeper theoretical understanding of the perceptual and cognitive mechanisms that support language and cognition, as well as their neurobiological bases. We also conduct empirical work (psychometric tasks, eye tracking, and neuroimaging) to test predictions of our models. Our primary areas of interest are (a) shallow and deep neural network models of speech perception, speech production, and reading, as well as their development throughout the lifespan, and integrating these models with one another, (b) models of bilingual lexical knowledge (both form and meaning, using network science and neural network approaches), and (c) the models of predictive processing, including predictive coding. We are open to other computational work, and there are also ample opportunities to collaborate with other teams at the BCBL.
